Lectors

Constant love and transformation...as told by one of our Lectors.
Being a lector has impacted my life with a greater awareness of sacred scripture. The written word of God is alive. The heartbeat is from the Holy ones who wrote it. The breath is from the Holy Spirit. Scripture is a beating heart waiting to be heard to transform our lives with the direction and Wisdom of God. The lector becomes its voice. It is more than reading words; it is answering a call. It keeps me aware and grateful of His constant love for all of us. -Terry T.
The Lector Ministers of St. Joseph Church are volunteers ranging in age from pre-teen to older parishioners, many of whom are life-long servers. Lectors serve the parish as readers of sacred scripture during Mass and special events as needed by the pastor. Their primary duty is to read the Old Testament, New Testament (excluding the Gospel), and the Responsorial Psalm, making the living Word of God present to the assembly. They also announce the intentions for the Universal Prayer (Prayer of the Faithful).
Those wishing to serve this ministry should have a clear speaking voice and should prepare the readings ahead of time. Lector schedules are published four times a year. Please contact us is you would like to join this ministry.
